The government of Italy has announced that it was putting a halt to the use of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine for people below the age of 60. The move came after a teenager, who had been administered the vaccine, died from a rare form of blood clotting.
Camilla Canepa, aged 18 years, died on Thursday, after receiving the vaccine on May 25. Italy’s special COVID commissioner Francesco Figliuolo said that the AstraZeneca shot will only be used for people over 60 years of age. Italian governments chief medical adviser Franco Locatelli said that individuals below 60 who have been administered a first dose of AstraZeneca vaccine should be given a second dose of a different vaccine… (Reuters, June 11, 2021)
